Overview

A tour around one of Glasgow’s oldest districts, starting at historic Glasgow Cross, taking in landmarks such as the Tolbooth Steeple, Mercat Building and Mercat Cross. Visit the ‘Tobacco Lords’ church at St Andrew’s Square and the Episcopalian church, learn about David Dale’s house and St Alphonsus RC Chapel. Admire the magnificent Templeton Carpet factory and hear about the tragic back story of its construction. Take in the former police station at Tobago Street with its garage, dog pound and cell block. Visit Glasgow’s world-famous street market – the Barras – and the attractive Pipe Factory at Bain Square. Learn about the famous Saracen Head Inn which stood on Gallowgate and its importance in Glasgow’s social circles in the late 18th century.
